Teaching with a Night Sky View
A Look Inside my Fifth Grade Classroom

Math board
Includes key academic vocabulary, anchor chart, essential questions, accountable talk, and congress problem. When learning vocabulary words, I like to have my students engage in discussions that provide discourse to enable my students to take ownership of the vocabulary.
Students were given unifix cubes to work with a partner to determine how to make sure everyone had a fair share. They were then asked, how could we figure out the middle number. Students were encouraged to use accountable math talk with their partners discussing what strategy they used or what steps they took to figuring out the mean, median or mode. Students are given opportunities to justify their answers and create problems for their partner to solve.

Sound wall
Located behind my reading small group. I decided to add plants and decorative pieces to create a warm environment in my classroom. Plants are from Target, brick wall paper from Lakeshore Learning Store and teaching knick knacks from various students.

Goal Setting Wall
I love using my goal setting wall to enable students to take ownership of their own learning. We spend time talking about how their grades can be a reflection of their effort. I pass out effort meters to my students and will ask them what level their effort is at when completing an assignment. More information regarding the goal setting wall will befeatured in my Visible Learning Board.

Science Center
Features anchor chart, essential questions and will eventually host my science stations for students to use during independent stations.
